This International Women's Day I want to promote gender equality, protect women and Be Bold For Change. Growing up it was obvious to me that women don't have the same rights as men. In Australia, women are quite lucky as we are a lot closer to having completely equal right compared to some other countries.
Did you know? Australia was the first country to ever give women the right to vote in federal elections & be elected in Parliament. (1902) In 2010 we had our first female prime minister, Julia Gillard. I encourage everyone reading this to take part in this IWD (International Women's Day) in any way you can. For more information on events and what YOU can do, visit the official IWD website: https://www.internationalwomensday.com/ I encourage you to challenge stereotypes like "You ___ like a girl" with responses like "Hell yeah I ___ like a girl, girls are awesome!" Take action by monitoring gender pay gaps at your current work place & challenge it! Never victim blame when it comes to violence against women. "Her skirt was too short, she was asking for it." This is not okay! Support women's charities, not everyone has it as easy as us! Showcase & celebrate women's success and support women-owned businesses. And finally, to all girls: Let's build each other up, not break each other down. I appreciate you taking the time to read this blog post and remember... BE BOLD FOR CHANGE. HALLOWEEN TUTORIALS COMING SOON!
October is one of my favourite times of the year, not only is it my Halloween it is also my birthday! Although I'm not necessarily happy about getting older (can't I stay 18 forever!?) I am not that big of fan of scary movies (except the Scream movies!) I do get excited about all the festivities. Coming together with my family and friends for my birthday is my favourite part of growing older & the presents aren't so bad either. Let me know if you would like me to do a post on what I get for my birthday. Halloween parties and dressing up is the most fun I could have! Last year I dressed as a vampire and went to a hunted mansion night club party in Brisbane, it was an amazing night and I can't wait to see what this Halloween brings. I am planning to go to Fright Night at Movie World with my friends this year, which is a theme park that throws a night of rides and haunted mazes. I can't wait! Let me know what you'll be getting up to this Halloween in the comments below! Next week is my birthday & I pretty much have something planned for every day of the week. Monday & Tuesday I am staying in Brisbane with my friends. Wednesday I am having breakfast with my mums side of the family. Wednesday night I am having dinner with my dads side of the family. Both of which I am very excited for. During the day on Wednesday I plan to get my eyelashes done, my nails done and do my fake tan for the weekend! On Thursday is my birthday (20th October) and unfortunately I'm working... Then on Friday I'm going to a Hawaiian bar with my friends from work and having a few cocktails (which are served in pineapples... :) Saturday night I'm going to a few night clubs with my friends, yay! What a busy week it's going to be, but excited to spend it with my favourite people. Have a good Halloween everyone! Mia x I'm sitting in my bedroom with this page open wondering what I should write about for this weeks blog post. Sometimes I struggle to feel inspired! Whether it's to do with everyday life like feeling motivated enough to clean your room, do some exercise, or to do your homework and just get things done during the day.
Motivation is something I struggle with, especially if it's something I don't really feel like doing. If I don't feel like doing it I don't usually force myself to do it. Which for the most part is a bad trait, it's something I need to work on. For example, right now I should be doing some research for my job interview tomorrow, or I should be doing my daily workout - both of which I am putting off and procrastinating. For me, when I feel unmotivated to write a blog post - I will go onto some of my favourite blogs such as Zoella or InTheFrow. I read some of their posts and usually that helps to inspire me to write my own post because I aspire to have a blog one day as incredible as their blogs. In everyday life, music inspires me most of the time to clean or hang the washing (my least favourite chore). How boring is cleaning without music? When you've got music blasting while you mop the floors, it definitely brightens the mood and means you can dance around while you do mop - as long as you don't slip. I get motivated to decorate my room by looking on Pinterest, I get inspired to get my dream body by looking at fitness pages on Instagram. I guess you have to figure out what works for you, I still struggle with inspiring myself on an everyday basis. My biggest tip in getting motivated is to think about your end goal - how is doing your homework going to help you in the future? You won't get a detention from your teacher, you will pass your test, you will graduate, you will get into university. How is doing this workout going to improve you? You will be an overall healthy person, you will burn off those Easter eggs you ate over the holiday, you will feel energised, you will probably live longer. Remember that the only person in charge of your life is you and you can do anything you put your mind to. So I'm going to leave you with a few quotes that I like to live my life by. I hope this helps to inspire you. "The best way to predict your future is to create it." "Nothing worth having comes easy." "When you think about quitting, think about why you started." "Dreams don't work unless you do." Leave some of your favourite motivational quotes below. Thanks for reading. Mia x Hi everyone! I felt like sharing my eye-shadow palette collection this week, I think my collection is starting to grow and I would love to share what I love and hate about the palettes I've spent my money on. I own four high end palettes and three drugstore. I tend to save up and ask for more expensive palettes my birthday/Christmas because they tend to be higher quality and have better pigmentation. I'll compare the drugstore and high end palettes in this post in more detail. Let's start with my favourite palettes I own, which are (of course) the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palettes. I can't decide which palette I like better out of these two because in each palette there is plenty of shades I can't live without. Both palettes come with 16 shades and smell like CHOCOLATE! Yum. Let's start with the Original Chocolate Bar Palette. As you can see the most used colour is Salted Caramel which is my ultimate favourite crease colour, blends so smoothly and I live for a warm colour in the crease. I often use Marzipan on my lid as a bright/eye-opening shade. Marzipan looks good on everyone! Creme Brûlée is another favourite, I love this on the lid too for a dramatic gold smokey eye, I use this with Semi-Sweet or Cherry Cordial. I just love the consistency of these eyeshadows and the range of colours are perfect for all occasions. Too Faced Semi Sweet Chocolate Bar As soon as Too Faced released this palette I sped down to shops to pick it up. I couldn't wait to get my hands on it and now that I do I never want to do my makeup without it. My most used colours look to be Truffled and Peanut Butter. I'm not sure what happened to pink sugar but it went a bit brown? Maybe from the other colours... Anyway, Peanut Butter is an amazing shade, perfect for an everyday eyeshadow look whether on its own all over the lid and crease or blended into the crease with Butter Pecan on the lid. I love the colours Caramel and Bon Bon - such unique gold shades! The matte black colour (Licorice) is so pigmented and dark which is what you want with a black shade. I don't tend to use the colours Rum Raise, Puddin' or Hot Fudge because they are quite cool tones and I'm more of a warm toned girl. Overall these palettes are my absolute holy grails, such creamy eyeshadows that smell amazing as they are infused with cocoa powder. I own one more Too Faced palette which is the Too Faced Cat Eyes Palette. It is smaller then the Chocolate Bars and would be perfect for travel. I don't use this palette on an every day basis but I love using it for something different, Three of the colours can be used wet or dry which is great because they are highly pigmented when wet. My favourite colours are Tiger's Eye & Pussy Cat. The quality of these shadows are just as incredible as the other Too Faced palettes. Zoeva 88 Eye Shadow Palette This is my largest palette by far, with 88 eyeshadows in it in every colour you could imagine. I love experimenting with these colours and creating some different eyeshadow looks. This palette is great for a makeup artist to have in their collection. I love the range of shadows in this palette, from neutrals and everyday shades to out there/bright colours. I didn't swatch every colour because that would've taken a very long time... My favourite colours in this palette are the reds and purples. These shades are way more pigmented when used with Mac Fix Plus. Now let's move onto the drug store palettes and compare! The Nudes Palette by Maybelline This pocket sized palette comes with fourteen neutral shadows. It comes with a mixture of shimmery shades and matte shades. My favourite shades are the shimmery gold and the matte black. Unfortunately I don't use this palette as much anymore because I don't like the cool toned shades in this palette and it has quite a few. However I do recommend this palette because it is high quality and has a very good pigment for a drugstore palette. I have two Chi Chi palettes that are quite similar but are my next favourite palettes after the Too Faced Chocolate Bars. The only reason I don't like them more then the Too Faced palette is because they don't have as large range of colours. However they are the best drug store palettes I've ever used. Chi Chi Timeless Palette This has almost all warm tones with a mixture of shimmery and matte shades. They are so creamy and pigmented! My favourite colour is the shimmy pink shade 4th from the left, I used it in my Valentines Day Makeup Tutorial and it looked beautiful. I love the warm maroon and browns, the shimmery highlighting colours are perfect for the brow bone and inner corner. I actually like the cool toned silver in this palette which is surprising! Chi Chi Mochas Palette This palette, like the Timeless palette, has lots of warm browns and maroons - shimmery and matte. I like the two shimmery pinks for Spring and I could use this palette every day. I highly recommend these Chi Chi palettes! That's all the eyeshadow palettes I have to share today, I can't wait to try more! If you have any palette reccommentations please let me know in the comments :)
I hope you enjoyed reading about these eyeshadows. I hope this helps you choose your next palette. If you're on a budget I'd recommend the Chi Chi palettes (only AUD$20) and if you have the money to spend or have a birthday coming up I'd go for one of the Chocolate Bar palettes (AUD$78). Just go into your closest Too Faced stand and smell them! You'll fall in love. Thank you for reading! Mia x Time for another foundation review! I picked up the Loreal Paris Infallible foundation recently so here are my thoughts on it! I've heard a few good reviews on this foundation which is what urged me to pick it up. I also wanted a foundation that I could wear everyday that wasn't too expensive, so I can save my high end/more expensive foundations for special occasions. About The Brand Loreal is a very successful beauty brand, they own many other different beauty brands such as YSL beauty, Giorgio Armani & Urban Decay; just to name a few. The Loreal Paris brand sells good quality drug store makeup products internationally. Do they test on animals? I'm not entirely sure... I did a bit of research and apparently they stopped testing on animals in 1993, however they source products from China and their factories test on animals. So technically Loreal does test on animals, which I was unaware of until recently and is extremely upsetting. Packaging This foundation comes in a plastic tube which is less luxurious then a glass bottle however much more safe because you know it won't smash. It is the perfect size for travel, I like the way it dispenses the foundation and it comes with 35mL. Which is 5 more mL then a normal foundation - score! Colour Range It comes in 7 different shades which isn't a lot. But for a drug store foundation this is expected. They have a mixture of yellow & pink undertones. (I read somewhere that the US has 12 shades available, why did we only get 7?) I bought it in the colour 22 Radiant Beige if you're wondering! Cost
Usually AUD$29.95 but has been marked down to AUD$20.96, not sure if the price will change again so get it while it's cheap! Foundation Summary Matte Long Lasting Light Weight Fragrance Free Light to Medium Coverage Buildable Coverage Non-cakey Review I enjoy wearing this foundation, I am usually not a matte foundation girl although after using this I can say I love the effect it creates. I have normal skin so it doesn't make my skin feel dry or patchy. I pair it with the Nivea Men Post Shave Balm and it stays on all day without fading or sinking into any pores. If I feel like having a more dewy finish with this foundation I use my Models Prefer Liquid Light primer beforehand. It blends easily with a foundation brush or damp sponge and I do not tend to powder my face when I wear this. I haven't found myself touching up my foundation throughout the day so it is definitely a long lasting foundation as it says it lasts 24 hours. I haven't worn it for 24 hours before (will I ever? Probably not) but it stays looking flawless all day. I did find it oxidised slightly on my forehead the first time I wore it but hasn't done that again since surprisingly. This isn't full coverage so it is perfect for the everyday makeup look. You can build up the coverage with another pump or two. Final Thoughts The only bad things I can say about this foundation is it oxidising slightly on my forehead (which only happened once oddly enough). It sunk into my expression lines on my forehead but it easily blended away if I went over them with a foundation brush, sponge or even a bit of powder. I don't think this foundation would be suitable for dry skin as it is matte but test it out with a moisturising primer if you would like; I'd be interested to see how that'd go. Finally, I love this foundation and I can see myself repurchasing this in the future. I gives me good coverage and doesn't fade throughout the day which is important to me. I highly recommend this foundation for anyone with normal - oily skin types. I love testing out foundations and letting you guys know what I think about them so I hope you found this helpful! Let me know if you have tried out this foundation and your opinions on it in the comments below :) As always, thank you for reading and I'll be back with another blog post soon! Mia x P.S I made a FaceBook page - please go like it to receive updates when I upload a YouTube video or post a blog post :) Click button below! Wait... It's already March!? Are you sure? It's crazy how fast 2016 is going. But now that it's March, it's time for another monthly favourites! These are one of my favourite blog posts to write, who doesn't like talking about their favourite things? Let's get straight into it! First up, this flat top foundation brush from Crown Brush. This came in a set I got from Crown Brush and it has to be one of the best brushes I've received. Of course I still love to apply foundation with beauty blenders or sponges, HOWEVER I have been using this brush lately and it gives such a flawless finish to my foundation. Can't recommend it enough! My holy grail mascara right now is the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara. Everything about it is amazing. Great brush, dark black colour and lashes so long without transferring. It is comfortable to hold and gets every single lash to behave and makes them look like false lashes! Love it so so much. Urban Decay is a well-loved brand to many, I especially love their Baked Bronzer in Gilded. I've been using it to add some shimmer and sheen over the top of my matte bronzer, it makes a nice blush too! I had to include it in my favourites, it definitely doesn't have enough people raving about it. Mac Prep & Prime Fix+ is a life saver! Works in multiple different ways and I have been loving it this month. I use it before I apply my makeup as a primer, then to set my face after applying makeup. It helps set the powders and make my face look dewy without getting oily. It also works to help the pigmentation of eyeshadows. It's amazing. My favourite eyeliner recently has been the Ingot Gel Liner in 77 (black). It glides on so smoothly and is very long lasting. It dries and stays put all day, which is what I need since I tend to rub my eyes forgetting I have makeup on... I use this to create the perfect winged eyeliner and it is as black as black gets. I have an obsession with false eyelashes. They make any makeup look ten times better! I kept hearing about the Koko Lashes from Lady Moss and ended up buying two beautiful pairs - Misha and Diva. They blend so well with your real lashes and are extremely easy to apply. I ordered them online and they arrived very quickly. They are also quite cheap! Adore these! That's it for makeup products, I have one skincare product to mention. I bought this a few days ago and I can't believe the difference it made in my skin. I have pretty good skin to be honest, I have a normal skin type and I don't often get pimples so most skincare products don't really show a noticeable difference with my skin. However this Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub has made my skin so smooth, soft and dewy. It made it look like I had Mac Soft & Gentle on while wearing no makeup! I couldn't believe how nice this made my skin look after one wash. Moving on to random things... Lately I've been replacing my morning coffee with a Berocca, it has 0 sugar and loads of vitamins! They come in two flavours that honestly taste like soft drink (so yummy) and make my feel energised and awake. I can't go without them anymore! I love the berry flavour, it tastes like creaming soda. Another food related item I've been loving is the Cocobella Choc Almond Super Smoothie. It tastes exactly like chocolate milk yet 100% healthier. I love finding yummy alternatives to unhealthy foods I can't live without. So I thought I'd share this with you guys because it's so refreshing and tasty! Now onto music I've been loving. I use Spotify to listen to music on my laptop and phone and I don't know what I did without it! My favourite songs right now are:
Sia - Cheap Thrills Coldplay ft. Beyonce - Hymn For The Weekend Rihanna, SZA - Consideration Check them out, I'm jamming to them right now as I write this post ;) Follow my Spotify for more cool music - https://open.spotify.com/user/emeliasmith That's it for my February Favourites! Thankyou for reading, comment your February favourites below! I'd love to hear from you :) Mia x Welcome back to my blog! Thanks for the ongoing support on my YouTube channel & my blog :) Mia x I purchased the Too Faced Born This Way Foundation about two weeks ago, I've been testing it out and have decided to write a review for you. Too Faced released the foundation in June 2015 and since it's been released I've heard people raving about it constantly. It's been spoken about a lot so I thought I'd give you the low down on everything you need to know about this foundation. About The Brand I love Too Faced as a brand, they are animal cruelty free (big thumbs up from me) and they are constantly releasing such beautiful, high quality products. What's not to love about them!? Packaging The packaging is gorgeous. Not too over-the-top but still super cute. It comes in a pink box with metallic gold and black touches. The box tells you everything about the product and the foundation colour is on the top. The bottle comes with a free pump (YES!) and a cap that doesn't come off in your bag and leak everywhere (double yes!). It's in a frosted glass bottle with black lid and metallic gold touches to match the box. Colour Range The Born This Way Foundation comes in 18 different shades with pink and yellow undertones. There's something for everyone! To find your colour I'd suggest getting the sales assistant to colour match you so you don't come home with the wrong shade. If you're wondering, I'm in the colour Light Beige. Cost The Foundation costs AUD$62 or USD$39 for a 30mL bottle. Foundation Summary - Oil Free - Medium to full coverage - Fragrance free - Natural finish - Light weight - No SPF - Easy to blend - Works well for photography Review I have normal skin type. This foundation has very good longevity, I use primer with it and I've never had a problem with it coming off during the day. I don't touch up my makeup during the day and haven't needed to powder my face after a couple hours of wear. As it is oil free it should work well for oily skin, I suggest trying before buying if you are worried it won't be right for your skin type. I wouldn't say it's full coverage, more medium coverage but build able. I usually use one to two pumps and apply with a damp real techniques complexion sponge. However no matter what tool you use to blend it, it easily blends and melts into the skin to give a natural and fresh finish. It doesn't go patchy when layering and you probably won't need more then three pumps to give a full coverage finish. The box says it's undetectable and I completely agree with that. The foundation is infused with coconut water to replenish skins moister levels: it never leaves my face feeling dry. It doesn't sink into any of my fine lines on my forehead or around my mouth, this gives me the impression that it would suit matured skin. Glycerin is it's third ingredient, which helps with the longevity of your makeup. Glycerin is basically the super glue of makeup so it is important to have in primers and foundations. Final Thoughts I think it's worth the money if you looking to invest in a decent foundation. Obviously there are some great foundations out there for less than half the price so I suggest figuring out what works for you and testing the foundation before buying. My favourite drug store foundation was Loreal True Match but after trying out this foundation I don't think I could go back. It's higher quality, longer lasting, fuller coverage compared to drug store foundations. My other favourite high end foundation is Nars Sheer Glow, which is slightly fuller coverage compared to Too Faced Born This Way however it's higher in price. Finally, I highly recommend this product and will continue using it as my holy grail foundation and I will be repurchasing this product when I run out. Let me know what you think of the Too Faced Born This Way Foundation in the comments below. And of course if I haven't covered something in this review, please leave me a question about it and I'll be sure to get back to you. Thankyou so much for reading and please feel free to share this blog post with your friends if they're too looking for an amazing foundation. Below are some pictures of how it looks on my skin. Mia
x Hi guys! Some would say I am a YouTube fanatic, I'm subscribed to almost 300 people on YouTube. That is a very large number of people. I spend a fair amount of time on YouTube, whether I'm watching videos or uploading videos. Basically I LOVE YouTube. So I wanted to share some of my favourite people on YouTube who I believe deserve more recognition for what they do. All these people have under 1000 subscribers and constantly upload amazing videos. So here are a few of my favourite people! (In no particular order) 1. Georgia Cate is an Australia beauty guru with just over 800 subscribers at this point in time, you go girl! I love watching her videos, she's a natural in front of the camera and always keeps me entertained. You can see she puts a lot of effort in her videos which I appreciate. Here's a few examples of the videos Georgia uploads: Makeup & Outfit Tutorials (Hair, makeup) Monthly Favourites Try-on Hauls If these type of videos interest you then head over to Georgia's channel and subscribe! Don't forget to mention that Mia Kate sent you! Click the photo above to be sent to her channel :) 2. Kelsey Siviter is one of my beauty idols on YouTube! That is everyone I am going to share today, I have probably missed so many people but it was extremely hard to narrow it down to only a couple people. Let me know who your favourite small YouTubers are down below in the comments! I'd love to find more people on YouTube with potential. I might do another one of these posts in the future so I'll keep an eye out for small YouTubers. I realised after I finished this blog post that all the people I mentioned are Australian. I get recommended a lot of Australian beauty YouTubers as I am a Australia beauty YouTuber myself. Sorry, next time I'll try include more international YouTubers! YouTube is an extremely competitive platform and involves a lot of time and effort to make it big. As it is so many people's dreams to be as famous as Zoella or Bethany Mota, I thought I'd take the time to dedicate some space on the internet for the smaller YouTubers who put in just as much effort and don't get as much praise. Thankyou so much for reading, I hope you enjoy watching my recommendations. It's time to shout out my own channel, I have two channels, one for vlogs and the other for beauty videos. Go subscribe and show me some love after you've checked out the YouTubers above :) Beauty channel (Mia Kate) Vlog channel (MoreMia) Have an incredible day, Mia x I'm all about using natural skincare products and I love doing DIY's. The other day I noticed my pores were looking not so great and it was really bothering me, I wanted to do something about it ASAP but didn't have a pore cleansing face scrub. I looked up a couple scrubs for clearing pores online but they were all quite expensive and shipping would take way too long. So instead of purchasing a skin care product I did a bit of research on ingredients that work well to clear pores. Honey, lemon or lime and sugar were some of the top products you could find at home. So here's how I made this pore cleansing face scrub that gives you a noticeable difference with one use! Here is what you'll need: Mortar & pestle 2 teaspoons of sugar - raw or white half a teaspoon of fresh lemon or lime juice (today I used lime) 1 teaspoon of honey First step is to put the sugar in the mortar (bowl) and crush it slightly. You won't need to crush it as much if you're using white sugar because it is already quite powdery. If using raw sugar like me then crush it until it's half powdery. You don't want it to be too rough on your skin but you also need to to be exfoliating. Run it between your fingers to see if it's the right texture. After crushing the sugar it should look something like this. (Refer to photo below) Next step is to add the lime juice, I didn't measure it out but it would've been about half a teaspoon. Add a little bit at a time to make sure it isn't to much liquid otherwise it won't exfoliate your skin properly. Then stir until completely combined. I added one teaspoon of honey and mixed completely, honey is very beneficial to the skin. Honey is a natural antibacterial, slows ageing skin and creates a complexion glow. If the honey makes the mixture too runny then add a little more sugar and crush/mix. The end product should look like a paste. After I finished mixing and the scrub is the correct texture I transfer the scrub into a small tub so I can reuse in the shower. This tub was bought of eBay in a pack and is great for storing your own DIY products! And there you go! I hope this scrub works as well for you as it does for me. I'd recommend this scrub for normal to oily skin. It may be a bit drying on already dry skin, if you do have dry skin and want to use this product perhaps add a bit more honey and moisturise your skin after using.
I tend to use this product once a week and scrub only on the areas I need clearing - usually around my nose and cheeks. This homemade and completely natural product makes your skin feel clean and fresh and makes your pores a lot less noticeable. This is great because it barely costs you anything and is guaranteed to be cruelty free. I hope this helps you if you are have trouble with those irritating pores. Thank you so much for reading, leave a comment if you'd like to see more DIY blog posts and I'll see you very soon! Mia x |
